Tonight...
Our Second PDI League Competition Evening
Thank you to everyone who has entered our PDI competition this week. Once again we received an over-whelming number of entries and so we've had to remove the 3rd choice images for both competitions.

Our judge for the evening will be Lloyd Moore CPAGB.

A member of Watford Camera Club (although we won't hold it against him!), Lloyd is an experienced photographer with a keen eye for the creative. You can see some of Lloyd's images on his Purpleport site.

Lloyd has visited us a couple of times since he started judging on the circuit and each time we have enjoyed his comments on our images so we're looking forward to welcoming him back to Croxley.
What Happens When a Competition is Over-Subscribed?

In the recent PDI competitions we've had such an amazing response from our members that we've had to reduce the number of entries. We know that it can be disappointing when your image doesn't make it into the competition so to explain, here's a guide to how we make this necessary decision.

When training with the CACC a judge is recommended to spend around 1 minute making comments on each image. This means that there is time for a maximum of 90 images in an evening. However, some judges are quicker than others and opens take more time than set subjects, so around 60-75 images is generally accepted as a good number for a competition evening.

When a competition evening is over-subscribed, we will first remove the 3rd choice Open entries (to favour the decision-making which has been put into the set subject entries). After this we will then remove the 3rd choice set subject. If the numbers are still above 85, we will then remove the 2nd choice set subject. Usually this will be enough to bring the competition down to a manageable level and keep the evening entertaining with a range of Open entries, but as a last resort we would also remove the 2nd choice open if needed.

Remember, you can enter any dropped images into a later competition. Even images which were made for set subjects can still score highly in an open competition, and in some cases a set subject image may actually do better in an open competition.
