PDI of the Year: The Results
Congratulations to Rod Lacey for winning our PDI of the Year competition with his fantastically creative image "Cook runs out for his last test innings".

Well done also to Denise Noverre who came 2nd with "Cruising through the fjords" and Archie Bagworth who came 3rd with "Lunch"
PDI of the Year - WINNER
(Open November - 20 points)
Thank you to everyone who took part in our PDI league competitions this season. 22 members had images featured in the PDI of the year and it was fab to see so many high scoring images on one night.

There have been many discussions on the committee in recent years on whether to keep the set subjects within the league so it was great to see that a third of the top images in the PDI of the Year were from set subject competitions. The ratio was similar for the number of held back images that were originally in set subject competitions (7 out of 25 =28%). Although set subjects can often score lower when entered in an open competition, a powerful image can (and should) be able to do well in both.

It was also fab to see some images which didn't score 20s in the earlier competitions impressing our judge Kathy Chantler, with 19 out of 25 of her held back images originally scoring 18 or 19 and only two of her top scoring images originally scoring 20 points.

A full list of the results is available to download here and you'll be able to vote for your favorite images that scored 20 points in a PDI league comp in our Members Choice competition after the AGM on 16th May.

Competitions Structure
2019 - 2020

The committee recently reviewed the competition structure and it was agreed to amend the competition structure from next season.

We will reduce the maximum number of entries for each competition to 2 per member so that the Competition Secretary does not need to remove any images. This will mean that members can enter 16 images in each league and their top 12 scores will qualify for each league cup.

We will introduce a Beginners League to replace the Newcomers Trophy competition. This will go across both Print and PDI competitions, with beginners having to enter at least 12 images across both leagues to qualify.

We will introduce a Wildlife/Nature Trophy competition open to all members.

The SB Cup will include any portrait image, not just images taken on a club event. The wording is expected to be  "This covers any image where the main subject is a person or people who are posing or otherwise acting under the general direction and control of the photographer, whether in a studio or location, lit or otherwise. ‘Street’ Photography and similar observational/candid images of people are not included."

Full details will be available in the updated version of the competitions handbook which will be published prior to the new season.
